100. Elementary Spanish 1. Absolute beginners
This course will provide you with the oral and written skills you need to be able to speak, read, and understand simple Spanish in everyday situations. No previous knowledge of Spanish is required. Main objectives are to understand and produce daily used expressions to satisfy immediate needs, as well as grasp the ideas of simple fragments of audio and written texts in Spanish.
An intensive course designed for students who have previously studied Spanish. An integrated approach that emphasizes developing and reinforcing language skills focusing on communicative and cultural competence. Main objectives are to understand expressions related to areas of everyday relevance; describe in simple terms aspects of our background; understand the main point, and the basic plot of filmic as well as short written texts.

This course provides an overview of the major events and significant political, social and cultural trends in the Iberian Peninsula from the Islamic presence in Al-Andalus to the XVII century. Emphasis will be placed on the historical context, and on the discussion of related readings, songs, and films.

This course surveys cultural aspects of Spain from the eighteenth to the twenty-first centuries. Among the issues and events covered will be the Enlightenment as ideology, the Napoleonic invasion of Spain, the wars of Spanish American independence, and the Spanish Civil War. Emphasis will be placed on the analysis of specific texts, works of art, and film.
